It was a perfect harvest, with perfectly ripened and healthy grapes, result of a climatic trend that had its topical moments in a torrid and sunny June and July. August was fresher, with some rainfalls and a greater temperature ragne that led to a regular grape ripening.
Here below the detailed vintage report:
Winter 2015 was characterized by heavy snowfalls from early February, providing the soil with an excellent supply of water. Thanks to mild spring temperatures from February on, the vegetative cycle began in advance and flowering began in half May, followed by an excellent berry set. Between the end of may and the first ten days of June there was a series of rainfalls. It was a prelude of fast two months without rain and stabilized temperatures to above-average maximums, with peaks of 40°C in July and averages substantially above 30°C.
However, the vineyards were in no way stressed by the heat, thanks to the plentiful water supplies. Particular attention was paid this year to the management in the vineyard of the foliage: in view of the abundance of solar radiation, great care had to be taken not to uncover the clusters excessively and cause damage from scorching, especially in vineyards facing south, south-west. The climatic conditions seen in the second part of the summer, with cooler nights, allowed to reach a balance between tannins and anthocyanins, thanks to the significant temperature range. We started the harvest 7-10 days in advance for the white grape varieties, which gave us full flavour wines with a right sour freshness, fundamental for achieving appeal and structure. For the red grape varieties, the ripening was really in advance, but the fresh August allowed to end the season with only a week in advance. The hot summer and the high solar radiation allowed us to obtain soft wines with an intense color. Now let the tasting speak!
